Camp Otonwe Day Camp
Campers ~ Grades 1 - 6
Weals ~ Grades 7 - 9
Reuniting Children and Nature
Campers are given the oppurtunity to connect with nature with hand-on experiences without the distratction of video games, televisions and computers. Connecting with nature enhances creativity, coordination, concentration and it relieves stress in children! Our volunteer and paid staff are dedicated to making your child's time at Camp Otonwe memorable. The staff must be at least 18 years of age (most are much older) and have experience working with youth. We conduct a criminal background check on each staff member and require references.
Camp Fire is inclusive; welcoming children, youth and adults regardless of background, race, religion, socio-economic status, disability, sexual orientation, or any other aspect of diversity.
Do not miss an exciting Summer of Day Camp at Highbanks Metro Park. Water and snacks will be provided each day. Campers need to bring a water bottle and lunch.
Weal Program
"Weal" is the Native American word for helper. This leadership program is open to youth that have previous camping and outdoor experience. If you have completed seventh grade, enjoy working with young children, and possess a positive attitude, then this may be for you. Training will consist of two all day sessions prior to camp. During camp you will be assigned to assistant staff with everyday duties. This program is an excellent stepping-stone to the Camp Wyandot CIT program.
About our Program and Staff
Camp Fire camps are co-ed and youth centered. The camper is empowered to try something new and take a skill to the next level. Daily decisions are made as a unit which helps children learn to get along with others and create a sense of belonging, which is an important aspect of Day Camp. Campers should be between Kindergarden and 6th grade, while Otonwe Weals should be between 7th and 9th grade.
Campers will participate in a wide variety of exciting activities at both locations including:
Nature Exploration
Singing and Role Playing
Fishing
Team Building Activities
Creative Arts
Creeking
Swimming
Wall Climbing
Ohio and Native American History
