It is not surprising many school groups board
buses and ride to the Hocking Hills for outdoor education. The area
is rich with ecological diversity. Geological concepts are more fun
when children can view ancient rock outcroppings up close. Meteorology
and astronomy can seem like a bunch of flat maps, until
a student witnesses a storm moving over the hill and washing the
valley, or has a chance to gaze
at a
twinkling sky unmarred by city lights.
We are pleased to offer our camp and support staff
to engage and educate children, and allow them to “be” in
nature. We have our own Nature Lodge in camp, and we work in partnership
with our next-door neighbor,Clear
Creek MetroPark,
which has a professional naturalist on staff.
Our camp is home to a variety of habitats, including deciduous
and evergreen forests, meadows, a lake and streams. Giant hemlocks,
brought by the glaciers, provide shade and humidity, creating a
unique climate. The hills are carved from the famous Black Hand
sandstone that rises into the Appalachian Mountains.
Combine your teachers’ expertise with the knowledge of our
staff about the specific plants and wildlife of Camp Wyandot! Almost
any aspect of curriculum can be highlighted and advanced at camp.
From creative writing inspired by nature’s beauty, to physical
activity, American Indian and Ohio history, science and math, see
how camp can make your lessons come alive! Camp tours and pre-camp
planning workshops with our staff and your teachers are available.
Facilities include many screened wood cabins for sleeping; unscreened
tebin units; three bathhouses with separate sides for boys and
girls; two smaller lodges with electricity and running water for
staff meetings, areas for work planning and medical/first aid personnel;
and a larger dining lodge with electricity and a full kitchen.
